Alright so i was driving into work this morning and going down a hill to stop at a red light. i put mild to moderate pressure on the brake pedal when my front right tire locked up on me a squelled like a wounded sloth. i let off a little and it released and pressed it agian, same thing.
i was planning on changing all my brake pads any way. now i am curious because i dont think i have abs and am wandering if new brake pads will fix this. i would hate for this to happen if the wife and kid are with me one day.
also i have really small tires on there now like 215 60 or something like that. my new BFG mud terrains 32 x 11.50's are on there way to the house via ups. while they help also with this problem
or is this something vehicles do without abs

While I'm sure the rotors/pads need replacing ... the locking up isssue sounds more like a bad caliper.

Sounds like a bad caliper. I've had that happend twice on the TJ. The caliper would stick and then ride the rotor, causing it and everything touching it to heat up and the jeep pulls hard to that side. The excessive heat makes for sudden stops or brake dragging. Calipers are cheap so replace them while you do the brakes. Get it all done and be safe

all needs to be looked at
I just think its a bad pad cus of the squeal
had the same condition on car one of the pads lost half the pad so if you hit the brake it would bind the caliper lock the wheel and squeal like hell cus part of the backing plat for the pad was dragging on the disk

i will call about caliper replacements today
My gf's grand am would do that. Hasn't done it since we replaced the pads and rotors. The rotors were chewed "down to the bone" though.
