Default idling at 2200 RPM

My husband just reinstalled my engine in my 89 XJ and when we start it it idles at 2200 RPMs then after a few seconds it stay high but starts jumping around. When i put it into drive the idle drops some but once i put it back into park it goes right back to 2200. All the sensors are clean and so is the TPI. Any IDEAS? We are going crazy trying to figure this out

Throttle position sensor (TPS) needs to be adjusted with an voltmeter. This is common on the Renix era 4.0L. ( NON HO )

Here ya go, scroll down to the TPS adjustment/test procedure.

I just had this problem! What u need to do is get a can of carb cleaner & some rags! Take your whole throtle body off & remove the 2 sensors on the side! Then clean the hell out of all of them & reinstall!

The throtle posishion sensor (TPS) is the 1 on the drivers side. before reinsalling this 1 put the other sensor back on &
Reinstall the throtle body now start the xj & adjust the TPS by twisting it left or right tell ur idle is where u want it!!!
If that doesn't work replace your tps! Good luck!!!
