Default new head, RPMs go to redline on start.

Hi all. I have an 01 Cherokee 4.0 auto at about 155k. Turns out I suffered from the 0331 head problems and it warped on me. I just replaced the cylinder head with a brand new PTQ and tonight was the first start up... So here's my problem. As soon as the jeep starts the rpms shoot up as if I'm holding the throttle wide open, when I'm not. My thoughts are maybe vacuum somewhere is leaking, or maybe the intake manifold isn't sealed.. Any ideas or 2nd opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.

That is an eye opener to have the RPM redline at first start up.

You'll have to visually inspect for a gap between the head and the exhaust/intake manifold. A common problem is not getting the intake seated on the locator pegs on the head.

It definitely was. Haha ok, thank you for the advice. I remember lining the intake manifold up to those before install but anything could have happened I guess while torquing the bolts down. I will be able to look at it more this evening and I will post if I find the problem.
