New guy with a rear door problem on a 95 XJ
Hi everyone - First real post on this forum, looks like a great place!
I acquired my first Jeep (95 Cherokee) a few months back. One of the rear doors will not open from the outside....I read about the adjustment procedure using the for the bolt at the edge of the door and spraying wd40 etc. I lubed it and cycled it 20 times and still no change. I did the procedure on both rear doors a few months back as they did not open when I first got it. Now this one seems to need more work. Where do I go from here?
Thanks!!!

I had the same problem with my '94. I suppose it's because no one used the rear seat on mine, and maybe yours too.
I removed the trim panels off of the rear doors, and oiled all the mechanisms for the door latches & locks, and power window stuff, and worked them to get them so I could open them from the outside.
Seems that the buttons have to be pushed in quite a long way to unlatch the doors. It could be that some part in the linkage is bent a bit from people trying to get them open etc..

Yep, i'm sure we have the same issue. I will pull the panel and lube everything. Hopefully nothing's bent as I would have no idea what it should look like in order to bend it back
Yep, I have to press the button on both rear doors super far in to get them to actuate...the driver rear opens but barely...better work on that too. Both rear doors shows signs of little use...the hinges and detents are dry and sqeaky as well.
Thanks!!

I can't say for certain that this pertains to your problem or that this is completely accurate. However, I replaced the door lock actuator on my '98 XJ and I remember I had to adjust it to make the lock engage correctly AND to make the door handle unlatch the door correctly.
I think there are a couple holes at the latch with screws inside... It's been awhile so my memory is fuzzy...

I have played with that adjustment screw at the edge of the door - it fixed the door when I first bought the Jeep over the summer but now it's not working again....I adjusted the screw again but no luck.
