new guy needs help!
Hey everyone
kinda new to this whole off roadin deal, really enjoying it. i need some help with a few things, i have been reading lots and i would like some tips from actual people...i have a 91 cherokee limited. bone stock, i wanna do a 6.5 inch lift with 35'' tires. lift companies recommend buying a control arm drop kit. i was wondering if anyone has some opinions on this..thanks!

i personally dont think you will have to do it. i have 6in lift and can go higher if i want and i dont need one. also what rear end do you have? if its a d35 then you will need to either upgrade it or change it out to atleast a 8.25 but would recomend a ford 8.8. the 8.8 will take more work to install. some welding and fabing. also that high of a lift i recomend a SYE kit and rear shaft with that kit. it is also a good idea to run set your driveshaft angles with that lift. there is a few ways to do the front. and really only 2 ways to do that rear. one if you do the 8.8 or even with the stock is set the pinion angle by welding new rear springs perches in the right angle or by useing shims. but with a 8.8 you have to weld new ones on anyways so set it before oyu weld them in place. the front you can cut the perches and everthing else loose and reweld it or deal with the castor angle. i deal with the angle and really havent had any probs with it. are you goin to upgrade your steering or stay with stock? i personally went with a crossover/high steer conversion that i built myself. there are alot of kits out there but i didnt like their prices and i know how to do it myself. so i did. but with that size tire and lift i would recomend a upgrade on steering. and when you change the steering nd with the lift you have to make sure your track bar are at the right angles with your steering to keep from haveing deat wobble.
im not tryin to scair you off im just tryin to warn you and get you to do it right weither you build the stuff yourself or buy the stuff. if you have any ques please feel free to message me at anytime. im usually on here daily some times it make take me like 2 days at the most to check my stuff. also message me and if you need ill give you my number and you can ask anything anytime

Also what purpose are u building the truck for. As the post before me states with putting 8.8 rears in. I personally see no reason for that unless u are going hardcore. I Know the last 3 owners of my jeep and the gears and axles in my D35 have held up fine. But my truck was not rockclimbed or extremely mudded. I recommed also what he said about the CV Driveshaft or slip yolk (whatever there called) my truck has had problems blowing U-joints in the past because I put 2 sets in for the previous owner.

BFG's AT are junk in my opinion because I usually use my vehicles for work also. I do plenty of farm work and they usually only spin over everything. They cake up with the mud around the farm and I tend to spend more time in four wheel rather then a 2wd compared to when I had tires with more meat. They just don’t grab the way I need. I prefer BFG Mud-Terrain or a similar tread but I don’t have the extra money. All my vehicles come with AT’s when I get them and it is usually the first thing to go. But that’s my opinion. To each their own. U know what I mean.
