hey guys, ive had this xj for a couple months now. the trans is a ba10/5 speed, and has a 231j t-case.
im wanting to put seals in both and reseal the transmission case when i swap the engine! but i have never worked on a manual trans or t-case.
so, is there anything scary about splittin the case halfs on the ba10 to reseal it? or is it somethin best left to a mechanic that knows whats goin on with them? i am sure i can do the t-case seals for sure.
i have searched and havent found much on the trans except it weak! but im not gonna go huge tires or anything, just 30 or 31's on a 3 inch lift. and im not too hard on stuff, so im hoping it will last till i can afford an ax15. lol any help would be appriciated.
also, whats involved in putting in a slip yoke eliminator? easy? or difficult?

Im sure if you are able to follow a technical manual you can do the seals on your own but it would be a good idea to read through the whole process before you begin so if you need any special tools or dont understand how to do something you wont get stuck half way through the job and end up having to take a box of half torn apart junk to a mechanic to finish for you. As for the slip yoke elim. do a search since there are several options and some are more difficult than others. I would suggest you look into the "h&t" sye as a place to start as i believe it is the simplest way to go. And as for the question of if the trans will hold up or not, that depends on too many factors for anyone to give you a deffinate answer. How hard has it been driven in the past and was it maintained well or not and how rough are you going to be and so on......

I'm not sure about the tranny having never opened one of those in particular. However the transfer case is another story. All I can say is make sure you remember the way you pulled it apart. Take pictures! It's not too had to do a sye. Just have to install everything the same way you pulled it off the slip yoke shaft.
