Default New guy here with an issue

Hey guys I bought a 1994 XJ sport about 2 weeks ago. Very pleased with it just having a couple issues. The ECM seems to be resetting every time i start the car. Every time is turn the key off and it sits the adaptive memory seems to be wiped out. Anybody experienced this?

huh, could be a number of things. Start with the fuses, then make sure you have a good power connection to the ecm, if those check out it's probably a faulty ecm. Find a wiring diagram for your jeep, it will help immensely!!!

By adaptive memory... You mean the radio won't hold it's preset radio stations?

Or is there more that you're noticing?

I think he means it runs like the ecu is re-learning (like it does when you disconnect the battery) every time he starts it

Mine has never run any different either when I take off the battery. And every time I do any electrical work on mine I do disconnect the battery. No difference when starting after that.

Huh, now that I think about it, mine doesn't either.... but I do work on alot of cars and most have a re-learn period after loosing power to the ecu where they run weird for a few days.

Unless something is screwed up and the computer has to retard or advance the timing I wouldn't imagine you would notice it going into learn mode. How are you determining this?

I'd be willing to bet he's talking about the radio presets. 10 bucks says it's aftermarket and was wired up by a moron.

Except it says in his post it's his ECM, so he's talking either about his computer or his rare factory optioned electronic counter measures!

I could be talking about a flat tire and blame it on the ECM...

What else would show "loss of memory" symptoms?

Maybe I'm wrong. I'm assuming.

Perhaps he's mad because the jeep can't remember his name.

CRS Syndrome.

On a '94? I know the '97-'01 XJ's frequently suffer from CRS but I have never heard of the earlier ones having it.

Sorry i was in a hurry earlier. I thought it was resetting because the ecm does not hold codes when i turn it off. they reset overnight everytime. It runs rough for a few miles like its re-learning everything then it evens out. I might just be ovverreacting but i just wanna be sure as this is my DD.
