new to fourmn. changing oil pump

Default new to fourmn. changing oil pump

hey guys
ive just changed oil pump on my 97 I6. ok so i got ahead of myself and put oil pan back on. what im asking..... there is a rod that comes out of bottom of distributer im guessing goes straight down to oil pump., can u get the rod on the pump without droppping pan again. the rod is like a flat head screw driver and it just slides into groove. but i cant seem to get it in and keep hearing it tat tat tat. any suggestions would help thanks.

Use a flat head screw driver to turn the oil pump shaft so that it will mate to the distributor.

if you have the pump bolted up allthe way and the pan back ,and its not sitting in the slot on the pump might have broke something tht shaft hook to bottom of dist....
