Default New to forum and need a couple answers please help.

I recently purchased a 4x4 88' Jeep Cherokee. The body is in great shape, but it doesnt run well at all. I would like to replace the motor. I would like some suggestions as far as what engine to install for a good running cherokee for multi purpose. Mostly will be used for work, but will most likely be off-road on weekends. Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks

the 4.0 HO is a good motor, and i "think" its a direct swap.

^good info

there's tons of info here on CF & throughout the net....best thing to do, is a bunch of research....u'll have to take into consideration maaaany things....type of tranny (auto aw4, or manual ax-5, ax-15) & TCM to control it, cooling system (pre-HO open system, or HO closed system), fuel injection, intake/exhaust, ECU to control all of it.....just to name some things

i'm no expert....just aware of the different technology & refinements (& in some cases, restrictions) that came about in the xj's 14 year duration

ultimately, it'll come down to how much time & knowledge u have, whats available to u, & all in all, how much effort u'r willing to put into it....GOOD LUCK! & WELCOME TO THE JEEP LIFE

88 should be Renix and probably does not have an AX series trans. I believe its Bendix?
