Default new to cherokees need a little information

Hi y'all,

I am brand new to the forum and the cherokee community. I recently bought a 1988 Cherokee with a 3.5 in rough country lift on 33 in tires. I have a question to ask about stock equipment.

first question is are the differentials open or locked? I am aware that they are both Dana differentials but i was unable to find much information on my own.

Any help is greatly appreciated! I am glad to be a part of what seems to be a very helpful and proud vehicle community

Ron

If the diffs are stock the front is OPEN, the rear is either OPEN or could be LSD. Pull the cover and look to confirm.

X2 on the Dana 30 up front. If your rear is a limited slip it'll look similar to this:

If you look closely you can see the clutch packs (I believe their called). That was out of my 8.25.

Welcome, any Picts of the XJ? What are your plans for it? If you want lockers and are on a budget, check out the venders and look for Aussie or Spartan lockers. Really good for the price.
