Default New Cherokee, looking for advice

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a 97 Cherokee that I'm getting ready to use as my primary vehicle. I'm looking for some advice on somethings that I should maybe look at replacing and was hoping for some advice on what I should consider replacing. It has 139,000 miles. Primary fix is the fuel tank. It leaks, already have a replacement tank lined up. Thinking of replacing the track bar asap because of the death wobble I get. Definitely plan on putting a 2-3" lift on it and tires before winter, so I have some time. Thinking of either 31.10.5 or 30 x 9.5. Any thoughts for anything else? Thanks

Replace the tank but, unless something is wrong then don't replace it.Are you sure the track bar is bad?DW can come from alot of different things.Check and push, pull and wiggle everything you can and tighten every bolt you can find before you go replaceing things. You could have bad hub units,bushings,u-joints and so on.Go 3ins and 31s.Good luck.

Thanks. I was kind of thinking about just waiting on the track bar and making sure everything is tight for now. That would give me more money for now towards the lift and tires. Ok. Question...I can't get the rear passenger door to open...any suggestions?

Is it unlocked?Make sure it is.I had a bud that his wouldn't open and its cause it wouldn't unlock inside the door. The button moved but it didn't inside. We had to take a tree saw blade and slide it between the door and glass and pull on the lock bar.Good luck.

Again, thanks everyone. All the info is appreciated. Now...any suggestions on tires? I'm thinking 31x10.5. Not looking to break the bank if I can help it but tires aren't cheap. Any ideas?

another thing is check your bushing for your sway bar. I had the DW as well and replaced the bushings and fixed it. below is a website to order new bushings if needed. Good Luck!

I've got 31's and bought them from a friend cheap. Buying new, I'd go with 275's and avoid lifting it until you are sure what you want.

I'd shop craigslist for a set of 275x15's. I see them all the time for $200 with years of life left in them. Just avoid anything with weather checking. It starts around the rim at the bead area - little tiny checks. If you see that, move on.

Death Wobble is BAD. Is the wobble when you hit the brakes, or when going over a rough patch of road, or both together at the same time? When turning? I would check, with vehicle raised, upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman arm, steering stabilizer(a new one can help control wobble, but need to fix whats worn out), brake rotors, unit bearings, control arm bushings and mounts. It could be a combo of a bunch of worn out parts also. I hate death wobble, and wont drive a XJ, unless absolutely necessary, until its fixed.
