Default New bushings but still clunking????

89 xj 4.0 auto 4x4 6". I had some clunking so I replaced motor mounts, trans mount, new shocks and new oem control arm bushings. I have RE control arms with flex joints on the axle side (also new joints). STILL CLUNKING!!!!. The clunking is at my feet. It sounds like the control arm bushings but they are tight. Any ideas??????? Thanks

Maybe your exhaust is hitting your crossmember. I had that happen when the crossmember was bent.

I will check the exhaust tomorrow. Ball joints are brand new.

When does it do it? Turning? Certain speed? Bumpy road?

Anytime I hit a bump. When I bought the Jeep the flex joints were shot and making the same clunking noise it is now. I replaced them and it went away. I then decided I might as well replace all the bushings, so I did. Now it clunks worse than with the old bushings. I made sure the bushings I pressed out were the same as the ones I replaced it with. Just don't get it??

If you feel it under your feet I would have to say it would be something with the control arms. I know you said that you know they are tight, maybe remove them and check the bushing sleeve and make sure it did not crush?

I have concluded that suspensions with control arms CAN clunk, even when they are in perfect shape. It is when there is a different clunk or no clunk at all that you have to worry

My wife's XJ clunked from front sway bar cushion being very worn out. Clunked over bumps and through turns.

Well every things tight, exhaust isn't hitting, guess it's just the nature of the beast.

I have also a clunking/noise under my jeep,it came after my last lift to 6" from about 3.5".It`s 4.5" coils +spacer.I have figured out my noise is that`s the swaybar who hits my coilspring when I drive at bumpy roads.I can see scratches in paint.
But that`s maybe not a simular clunk or noise you have, how do you guys solve this problem?Relocate the swaybar mounts or modify the swaybar, like drill new holes and cut off the ends off?

If they are hitting then most likely they are too short.
