Default new ac compressor kills alternator??

Hey All, new here so excuse any rookie errors.

Just had a new compressor put on along with belt all done professionally. Soon after the alt gauge was showing no charge on and off and today I lost power to the radio, wipers etc and now it's dead in the driveway. So could it be a coincidence that the alt. went bad a week after the new compressor or could belt tension be an issue...other??? It seems odd that the two aren't related.

Thanks. N

Check your belt tension. Most shops that aren't familiar with the 4.0's (yes, some places exist that know nothing of these beasts) don't realize that this engine loves an extremely tight belt. Grab the belt with your thumb and pointer finger halfway between your idler pulley and power steering pulley. You should be able to twist it to a 90 degree angle. If you can twist it further with little effort, it's not tight enough.

Look at your Alternator connections to make sure whoever put on your A/C Compressor didn't accidentally knock something loose.
