Neutral Safety Switch Help
there is no real how to on how to service a neutral safety switch. after days of searching i have come to the understanding that you remove the 12mm position bolt and remove the big nut on the side and it should slide off
i have all of that apart and the switch still wont slide off of the shaft...am i missing something?

I am getting ready to replace this on my jeep. Where exactly on the transmission is it located? And will cleaning them do anything or do they have to be replaced after they go bad?
its on the passanger side of the transmission, there is a metal hose going to the transmission and its right near that, i can take pics for you....dissasembly and re-greasing is a last resort before replacement, it could fix it or not. if it doesnt work still then you will have to replace it

I just took mine out and cleaned it this weekend...lots of hardened dielectric grease causing issues.
I pulled and pried at the thing for a good hour and then went back online. I read on another forum to put the large nut back on a couple of turns, then pry the NSS off with a screw driver using the nut for leverage. I tried that and it worked like a charm.
Another note, when you put the NSS back on, make sure that the switch is all the way up against the transmission. If it is not flush, it will make the shifter hard to move.

The switch went out on our jeep several years ago and a mechanic took it off the transmission and now it sits beside the fuse box. If you barley turn the little thing on it then it won't start. Could someone explain to me how this works off the transmission but when you put it on it won't work. The only reason I need it replaced is so the reverse lights will work. Sorry for the dumb questions I'm new to working on jeeps.
