Default Neutral on 2001 Jeep Cherokee
Hello, Im new to 4WD's I just bought my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Automatic and noticed that while in drive I can just slide the shifter into Neutral with out hold the button in on the shifter. I have to press the button in to get into the other drives. Is it normal to be able to do this? Is it like that for the 4WD? Automatic trans.

That's normal for an automatic transmission well from my experience at least. My Civic was also like that

Its normal, you cage go from reverse to neutral to drive, and from 1/2, to three to drive

Also confirming that it's normal. Every car on the new car lot I work on does it.
