neon injectors

Is anyone running neon injectors? What does it do if i were to swap them out? Anymore power?

93gc40 06-23-2010 08:16 PM

A little better gas mileage.

MyNameIsNick 06-23-2010 08:30 PM

Neon? Like a Dodge Neon?

Yeah! You can replace your stock injectors with one from a mid 90's dodge neon and will get a small increase in gas mileage. Supposedly it gives you more power as well but i cant tell you for sure since i haven't done this yet.

xebraj 06-23-2010 09:54 PM

i did it a while ago and i feel it was well worth it, i havent measured the milage, but im sure it helped a bit. I noticed it had way better throttle response and it never stutters now. You want the injectors with 0280155703 on them. I believe they are in the 2.4L from 95-97.

This might help too,

Yep all 87-98 xj's take #0280155703 injectors from the 95-97 neon or stratus

tnmedic 06-23-2010 11:24 PM

those year neons never came with a 2.4 so stick to the stratus's

Did mine yesterday, no real increase of power, but the throttle response seems better.

clevis 06-24-2010 08:56 PM

Got mine swapped today...as stated before there is throttle response difference but power wise not noticable....

tiwvr1 06-24-2010 09:20 PM

anyone ever try this on a 5.2 zj

capndoodles 06-24-2010 09:20 PM

I'm looking at doing this swap too within the next week so i'll post up some results too

sgtskid 06-24-2010 10:07 PM

I have a set of injectors from a neon numbers 703's for sale. I just swapped mine you can check my build thread in my sig to see. Super easy to do and while I didn't notice any gas mileage gain I have noticed better acceleration. Well worth it imo.

jeans 06-24-2010 10:37 PM

i dont mean to jack the thread...but does anybody know if the #703 injector from the 95-97 2.4L is a plug and play for a 97 xj? or should i be taking the connectors from the 2.4 as well as the injector?

side note...has anyone run into the issue of the ECU having to relearn the timing/duration of injection because of the differences in the two injectors? or are they rated the same, just the neon has more orifices?

I have a 98 and they are direct plug and play for me. Should be for you as well.

Bustedback 06-25-2010 10:58 AM

The 2.4 and Neon 2.0 injectors are the same.

Bustedback 06-29-2010 10:38 AM

I checked my mileage after the injector swap, gained 1.5 MPG.

Would they work on a '99?

Not sure....at some point 99 or 00 Jeep switched the injector connector from square plug to round plug. The 703's are square.

Bustedback 07-01-2010 06:08 PM

Ok, the last tank of fuel averaged out to 17.8 MPG. Before the swap I averaged 15MPG, so a 2.8MPG gain is huge for a simple injector swap!

95XJ4.0 07-01-2010 06:19 PM

would this swap work for an H.O engine?

Char92dj8 09-12-2010 06:54 PM

Just to make sure what im reading is right, the neon injectors -0280155703 from 95-97 are a direct plug in to my 89 renix right?

nveon91 09-12-2010 07:07 PM

i did the 703 swap to find out that on my 2000 xj they r to short so i got 784 out of mid 90's stratus and they give better fuel mileage and response, revs up alot faster with no hesitation. they are direct plug and play with 4 hole instead of 1

CheapJeep95 09-12-2010 07:09 PM

i know you guys have been talking about this injector swap for the 4.0 but will this swap also work on the 2.5 in a 95 xj?? thanks guys

i love cheap upgrades!!

95THORxj 09-12-2010 07:59 PM

i beliieve that they would work. & u only need 4. less money.

and easier to find in one car, so you dont have to go searching for two more :brows:

CheapJeep95 09-12-2010 08:55 PM

ok good to know.. i figured it would work fine. since the 2.5 is pretty much the same as the 4.0 just with 2 less cylinders.. so i figured the bore and stroke / injectors would be the same.. correct me if im wrong but isnt the reason why they injectors increase mpg / throttle response etc is due to the spray pattern right? cause ive read that our stock injectors have a one hole spray vs the neon 4 hole spray? thanxs for all the great input guys

ps i was born in manassas va too so good to see a fellow virginian... except now im a west virginian lol

Say hi to Mike O'Meara for me.

joelfett 09-13-2010 11:23 AM

Got smoother throttle response, smoother idle, and better gas mileage. Power wasn't noticable. I thought the 2.0 was shorter than the injectors from the 2.4?

This swap work on a 2000?

rockhound23 09-13-2010 04:58 PM

I'm considering this upgrade like everyone else...just a couple stupid questions about it: 1) how hard is it and are there any writeups for step by step on here (searched tech and didn't find one) 2) will this work on the later versions on the 4.0 in a TJ motor?
Although the Cherokee isn't a daily driver, I've got Dixie Run coming up and don't need to screw up something that works fine as is..just doing the mod if I can make it a little better and it's not all that bad, then why not right?

thanks

Irongrave 09-13-2010 09:30 PM

looks like I'm off to pillage 3 neons, need 2 sets one for me and one for my GFs 96

ulthigh 09-14-2010 09:30 PM

what do you guys believe is better neon/stratus or mustang injector swap def. want 4 orffice

dauber 09-14-2010 10:41 PM

Sure am glad I joined this forum... we have a 1996 Cherokee with the 4.0 and two 90's Dodge Neon... and two spare engines sitting in the garage! Heck, they don't need the injectors, right? :w00t:

xjman941 01-13-2012 11:31 AM

I know this thread is old but a guy came over and said that he did the swap and had a huge power difference. he con tuned to tell me that before it wouldn't really do a burnout then he did the swap and had them tires turning like it was nothing and had great fuel milage but what i don't understand is would you loose fuel pressure because now your dumping more fuel and i wonder if it would make a difference to run a bigger fuel pump?

You are not using significantly more fuel with the Neon injectors. The benefit comes from spraying the same amount of fuel through the four smaller holes in four very fine streams rather than one large stream. The improved atomization (breaking the fuel in small particles) helps it burn more efficiently and completely. Hence better mileage, power, and emissions.

BrofessorXJ 01-13-2012 11:31 PM

Did the 703 swap and 99+ intake manifold at the same time. Noticed a bit of power increase but mostly better throttle response and the jeep runs smoother. Definitely worth it.

From 95-05 neons only had 1.4 , 1.6 , 2.0. From 03-05 the srt4 had the 2.4.
So do we need the srt4 investors? Cause they are impossible to find used.
