Default Neon Injector Swap

I have stock 1997 XJ 4wd with 4.0L and was very interested in doing the Dodge Neon injector #0280155703 swap because I have read from many people that it gives a noticable difference to both power and mpg. I ended up buying 4 off ebay and 4 that I found in a junkyard. I also bought new o-rings and injector filters.I used this method to clean them DIY Fuel Injector Cleaning and
. After installing them the jeep ran amazing. I felt a noticeable power increase and it ran much smoother, but after about 25 miles It started to misfire, knock, and check engine light lit. Also white smoke came out of tailpipe and light smoke was coming from under intake manifold and engine was smelling like fuel. The codes it threw were P0201, P0202, P0204,P0206, and P0304. It basically said that cylinders 1,2,4,and 6 had bad injectors and after checking plugs cylinders 6 and 4 were fouled. After changing plugs and put stock injectors back, engine ran fine again. What I don't understand is why they worked so well for the first 25 miles and then just crapped out on me? I checked the impedance of the neon injectors and they all were between 12.5ohm to 12.8ohm, I don't know if they are spec or not. Also i checked them if they sprayed, they did, with my homemade 12v switch and harness. I checked if fuel was leaking around the o rings but they weren't considering they were brand new. Could these have just been bad injectors? or am I missing something. I heard injectors rarely go bad. Sorry for long post

I am having the EXACT same problem.

Have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0.

- Did the injector swap.
- Jeep ran amazing. Big improvement on power, response, and idle.
- Next day went to start it and Idle was very rough, and smelly, white smoke started coming out of tail pipe.
- After turning the Jeep off, now it won't start at all (seems like it's not getting gas).

Jeep ran amazing last night, injector swap was completely worth it. Now jeep won't run at all. Any ideas on what is the problem?

I can say that testing/cleaning an injector like does not even come close to what it will go through after it is installed. During operation injectors probably fire 15-20 times a second. During that cleaning it was maybe firing once per second. That cleaning will not bring out any issues the injector might have while under load.

As for me I did not clean them before installing. These were supposed to be "AAD Remanufactured" injectors that I got off of e-bay that came with a 10 year warranty. Do you think I have bad injectors or could it be something else?

Like I said, Jeep road wonderfully after installing. Then next morning got the white smoke, rough idle...and then eventually wouldn't start.

I reassembled things the same way I took them apart...is there a maybe common overlooked step I forgot to do while putting things back together that wouldn't be involved in taking things apart.

Really sucks I have a Jeep that won't start now...any help would be appreciated. But yeah, I'm pretty much having the exact same problem as the OP from 7 years ago.

I know it sucks but I would re-install the old injectors and see if it fixes the problem. If it does use your warrenty and get your money back.

What is the part number on the side of the injector?

Thanks guys. I'll pull everything apart, take a good look at them, and try reinstalling them. That is going to suck. I'll let you know how it turns out.
