Need your help

I bought a Cherokee xj 1989 and there's a black screen just next to the radio under the clock. My question is what's the screen for ?

Oh wait, I'm a dummy..... I was thinking screen like a window screen hahahaha. Do you mean screen like where an indicator light could be?
