Question Need some input on what to do with my axles

Hi I have learned a lot about jeeps from this site after I bought my first XJ and now I need some input from some experienced Jeepers. I bought my jeep basically as is a few months ago. I think it has a H233b but I'm not sure its either that or a toyota if anyone could help me identify it that would be great. Its a great third member axle with disk brakes and lower gearing and I would really like to keep it. The rear end however is six lug while the front is a 5 lug d30. I wouldn't mind replacing the front with a waggy to get matching lug patterns. I also ran across some 6 to 5 lug adapters and was wondering if anyone has ever run these and how they do since the rear end already has spacers on it and it would be much cheaper than swapping the front. The real issue is the gearing. The nissan has 4.30 ish gearing I think and I'm not sure about the front. I'm not sure if I'll even be able to find matching gears for the front I would really appreciate some input since I've been pondering this for months now.

one way to ID is count the studs on the 3rd member nissan has 11, I went and counted my toyota it has 10. IMO adapter are fine as long as you dont go too large with the tires. Sidenote the nissan ring gear measures about 9.25" the toyota is 8". H

I was having trouble uploading pics but I'll try again tomorrow. the third member has 11 studs so that pretty much confirms that it is a Nissan which is fine with me cuz from what I read thats one of the strongest stock axles you can find. I have 31's right now and planning on moving to 32's or metric equivalent. I'm gonna check the gearing tomorrow and hopefully it will be something I can match the front to or I have a whole new set of problems thanks for the input though.

http://forums.nicoclub.com/all-you-n...4-t233955.html This may help in finding gear ratios that are common to this axle
