Need some help! Replaced head gasket, now motor is stuck!!
Just to be clear, bolts were $25, head gasket was $20, add shipping and tax.
Got tomorrow off so I guess it will be the big day. Going to pick up the head in the a.m. and go from there, wish me luck!

Well, guess it just wasn't meant to be. Put it together, no hydrolock, finished up and started it. Smoking just as bad as the day I bought it. I can see it spitting coolant out the #1 exhaust manifold. Either this machine shop doesn't know what they're doing or I have a cracked block, either way I guess I give up. Now I have to decide what to do with it. Right now I'd like to shoot it full of holes, then push it into the lake out back.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that.
If the Jeep is otherwise decent, I guess I'd pull the engine and send it to a machine shop to be rebuilt. I would tell them everything that has happened. Maybe they can figure out where the problem is, or find a good replacement block. Maybe they can use some of your innards if need be.
A Jasper engine with a 3-year warranty is about $3200 assuming a good core. Drop-in replacement. Would be great for a 100-mile per day daily driver.
If the Jeep is a rusty rattletrap, I would put it back together, sell it for whatever I could, and spend the money on something better.

Yeah, it sucks. It's a shame because the body is in really nice shape for an Ohio Jeep, it had hail damage so it's dimpled up on the top but it's also 99% rust free. I'm just going to have to digest this for a while, I can't afford to do anything more at the moment and with winter just about here I have nowhere to do it either. Life can be a downer sometimes, but I'll get over it.

If it were me I would find a complete engine out of a wrecked one or something on Craigslist. You can generally pick them up for $2-300 if you look around a bit. I just sold a good running 4.0 with 185k for $200

Well, well, well.....somebody sold you a defective unit! PO probably ran the sucker dry (no coolant) hence cracked cyl wall etc etc..
EBAY/ Craigs list. 400 bucks get yerself a pulled motor. or find decent junkyard and yank one out..... prbly 4 to 5 hundred.
clean it up good and drop it in. (yeah, I know, easier said than done, winter coming and all).
but if the trans and the body and interior and all else is in great shape, then it might be worth it. I have had my 91 since brand new and 289,765.1 miles later its still runnin great! regular maintenance equals longevity.
sorry to hear your story, appreciate the sharing, maybe some other folks will read and heed!
good luck sir!

Yeah, I took a chance with it. I didn't figure some idiot would run it hot enough to f up the block, but I probably should have considered it. Still weighing my options, I hate the thought of buying a motor I can't hear run though. I could be buying myself another white elephant!

Hey Cpn! Welcome back, missed you!
Where are you Hog. Thursday I got rear-ended and about totaled my 90. (frame bent down at receiver hitch mount.) Mostly OK except now the Diff sounds like a table saw when you gas it. Hatch sill works!
