need opinions on whether to repair my jeep or not.
I got in a little accident in my XJ a few days ago from the snow and completely destroyed the front bumper. The airbags deployed and the windshield is a little cracked. The jeep is still running strong though! There are no problems with how it runs. It has 197k miles on it. Insurance can't cover this accident so it's gonna cost me a hundreds of dollars for a nice bumper. I don't mind the cracked windshield and I can live without the airbags. I'm 17 years old and I just need a car that will last me for maybe another year or two. Is it worth it? The car cost $3000 at 187k

Why would you ever scrap a good running XJ? From the description it doesn't sound like a very bad crash, got any pictures? If it still runs and drives straight I would get some scrap yard parts and repair it, then keep driving it or sell it

All you need is a bumper? Salvage yard.
Search around and you can find somebody to replace your windshield on the cheap.
DRIVE IT> A new vehicle will cost quite a bit more and if you buy used, you may be buying somebody else's problems.

the answer is YES!!!! fix it, if worse comes to worse take the tags off and hold onto it for an all trail rig. it could be youre "frankenstien". Your really not gonna get much for a crashed car with airbags deployed. junkyard bumper, and with a little help from someone who knows what they are doing you could pull a windshield and airbags while your there. probly get out of the junk yard with everything for less than 500 bucks, if that much.

If you really thinking of scrapping it then just sell it to me for the same price. its not a total loss you can put a jy bumper on it for under $50. I would be happy to take it off your hands.

take the bumper off, try to bang it out with a torch and a hammer, if that wont work hit it up the yard pull a new one.
The whole reason cars have bumpers is for this purpose. so its the first thing that goes instead of the important components behind the bumper.

Pushed the bumper in dead center about 8" and deployed the air bags. No other damage to the cherokee.
Paid $700 for it and drove it 2.5 hours home...
Removed drivers deployed air bag and cut out passengers and drove it for 8 months..... finally picked up 2 airbags at the JY and the clock spring in steering wheel for $125.... and a bumper for $25.
its a very easy fix and cheap doing it yourself.
I would in no way scrap a running driving XJ because of that.
it only takes about 30 minutes to pull the old ones and install good air bags..installing the clock spring in steering column takes a bit longer but putting in the air bags gets ya back looking right.
if ya want a set of air bags let me know...(PM) .. I saw a good set at the u pull it yard today and i can call and price them tomorrow.

thanks guys.. I'll have a picture up tomorrow. my original plan was to get a bumper like any one of these.

It's a little out of my price range but I think it would be a nice addition to the jeep
I'm hesitant to make my decision b/c car is so old and has so many miles. I don't think I should be paying so much money on a car that was only 3000
btw i live in Gaithersburg, MD
