Default Need nuts and bolts for Factory Receiver Hitch, found in junkyard.

Like the title says I was sifting through a scrapyard and came across a 98 Cherokee, I was looking for some goodies when I found the factory mopar receiver hitch in the backseat, I guess someone already took it off, but there were no nuts or bolts to be found.

Does anyone know where I can find a kit or at least tell me what size bolts and lengths I need, and how many? And I guess some have little shimmy plates that go in the frame. I would appreciate it. I only payed $20 for it.

Personally I'd just back to the JY or Quadratec and get a set of stock nut strips, or go to U-haul or some other installer and buy a mounting kit.

thanks, I've seen most of those through out the forum already, but I think Im just gonna make my own plates to slide into the frame. Im a cheapass and I dont really like paying for stuff that I think is over priced anyways. $30 for bolts and a sliver of metal isnt worth it for me, especially when the hitch only cost me $20. Or browse the yard a little more until I find one that does have one.

its a class 3 hitch, 5000lb rated, its heavy, seems like its pretty heavy duty. I looked underneath of it a couple hours ago, the passenger side nuts are rusted out. I might just do the same as with the drivers side. Im gonna fab up my own square washers and just use them. the cherokee i found also had the mopar front recovery hooks and front skid plate that Im gonna go back for in a couple weeks, thanks for the input guys.

That's what I did. I think the passenger side already had the nut strip. It seems to me that there is an exhaust hanger or something else bolted to it. For the side that didn't have one, I just got a piece of 1/8"x1"flat stock, marked the location of the hitch bolts, drilled it, welded nuts to it and slid it into the rear of the frame. Get the bolts from the auto parts store or hardware.

Here's a template of the original trailer hitch/gas tank skid plate retainer plates so you can make your own.

Yep you will have to buy nut strips. I called around to every u haul and other hitch place's to find the hardware and no one sold it. The hardware came with the hitch only.

You could just fish the bolts through the frame rail which isn't hard at all, unless you really want to fab something up. The bolts you'll need are 6 - 1/2" x 13 x 1 1/2

I have tried several times, unsuccessfully, to remove the nut strips from a XJ at the jy. With the time and material you will invest in making your own, you will come out ahead just ordering the install kit. I have learned the hard way by spending way to much time and money on things "I can make myself to save money". I usually screw it up at least twice and say to hell with it and spend the money on quality parts in the end.
