Default Need new 3" springs & shocks good for towing.

I have a 1997 XJ that the PO installed some sort of 3" lift on using an AAL in the rear. Of course it is starting to sag and it rides terrible. I need to replace the springs to even things out and improve the ride. We are about to purchase a 17' camper that weighs around #2900 lbs. and I will be using the XJ for hunting/fishing trips, so cargo capacity is a top priority. I will just have to live with a little firmer ride when driving it on a daily basis.

I have been considering the OME HD springs with an extended shackle if needed along with the OME heavy, RE mono tube or Bilstein 5150 shocks. What would you all suggest in the way of new leaf springs and shocks for my application?

By the way, my XJ has the factory towing package on it and I will be upgrading to a B&M tranny cooler before towing. The trailer also has brakes on it as well.

OME heavy with a .75-1" boomerang shackle will suit you well. all three shocks you mentioned will work great, but I'd recommend the OMEs since you'd be going with there leafs and they were designed to work together.

Thanks 93XJ. I am pretty sure this is the route I will go, but wanted to see what anyone else had to say.

I agree with 93XJL1, go with OME shocks and HD springs. They are designed with towing in mind and have an overload leaf for assistance. Personally I'd opt for the OME AAL instead of the shackle If i were you. It'll keep the springs arched properly and help with towing. I run the HD rear springs, OME AAL, and shackles for 4.5" lift. The combo handles any weight I throw back there and barely any sagging but still rides very soft.
