have 1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0L AW4 with obdII
Per parts manual OEM Crank Position Sensor is replacement part no. 56027865
that was later replaced by 56027866AB
can only find new OEM 56027866AC
is the "AC" a replacement for the "AB?"
thanks

According to this reputable online Jeep dealer, yes.
Call them or your local dealer if you wish more information.

For many Chrysler parts, the suffix changed from year to year
with no actual difference between the parts.
Make sure you buy a genuine Mopar CPS. Here is a very good

Both of those P/Ns cross reference to the 97-01 CPS. 1996 was a wonky year, because part of the production run had one style of connector, while the others have different connectors (the '97+). In this case you'll need to check your connector on your cherokee and match the replacement part based solely on the connector—easier than replacing the whole harness

This is the "early" '96 connector design—more oval/round:
This is the late-96, '97+ connector design—more rectangular:

Sorry about the slow response. Thank you for the information. The 56027866AC does have the correct connector for late 1996 production with OBDII.
Thank you both for your responses!

If anyone needs an aftermarket one with the newer style connector, I have one. I bought it from a guy on the Cherokee XJ forum on facebook for the cost of shipping thinking it would be the right one for me. He said it had the wrong connector for his XJ. I took a chance that it would have the earlier oval style connector. I lost.
Just cover shipping and it is yours. $7 via USPS priority mail to any of the 50 states.
