hey new to the forum i have owned a 93 and 95 yj but never a cherokee,my wife came home the other day with a 89 xj 4.0 efi auto and it had a problem of not wanting to start without jumping the starter wirer straight to the battery when u turn the key to on the dash light will come on but when u turn it to run nothing will happen. well it would start for awhile by jumping the cylinoid but now it does not get spark to the coil.i ran the starter switch straight to the battery and just put it on a toggle switch it will crank the starter but the coil is not getting power now, i have noticed the the ignition switch does not need a key to start could the switch just be bad or is it somethig with the starter cylinoid please help

 

i would check all of your fuses if all are good I would start with the ignition switch.

 

Had a similar issue a couple weeks ago. It turned out to be the ignition switch was not mounted properly, I had a screw missing. Replaced the screw and she started.
