Need help with transmission cooler !!

I plan on installing a Hayden aftermarket transmission cooler.

Should i bypass or dont bypass when installing. My two main concerns is if i DONT bypass the rad, if something fails, my trans is going to get filled with coolant and ill end up needing to replace the whole damn thing anyway. if i DO bypass and run the cooler straight to the trans #1 will it be good enough to keep it cool? This hayden looks pretty powerful enough, and #2 with the rad bypassed, will i have a problem with the trans fluid getting heated up on cold days? Here in Phila, it can get down to 15 on some mornings in the DEAD of winter, but is in the 20's and 30's on average.
TIPS? please help. No one i ask has any idea, and im not much of a tranny guy

I normally say bypass the radiator but if you are worried about winter warmups then leave it plumbed in or just put a t valve in. Run through the radiator when it's cold out then switch it to cooler only when it's warm or towing.

Keep it inline with the radiator, if you bypass the radiator will have a fairly large void without fluid in it and makes the radiator run hotter. If the radiator fails you will not get any coolant in the trans seeing as how the trans cooler in the radiator is separate. I installed mine to cool after it goes through the radiator. Haven't had any problems yet and its been installed for a year.
Sorry guys I hate to be the newbie that resurrect a post from the dead but I have just had bell housing crack due to drive line angles and another reason but I have a rebuilt kit on the way and would like to install a trans cooler I have been looking around at post and all kinds of trans coolers.
The one I would like to install is B&M Hi-Tek SuperCoolers with Fans 70297 (or a similar but smaller version)

This cooler is a fin and plate design with a 9'' fan controlled by thermostatic switch cut in @ 175 degrees cut out @ 140 degrees.
In addition to the cooler I'd like to install a deep pan but I fear this may be a bit over kill especially in cold Wyoming temps.
Any suggestions.
