Sounds like you have bad timing on the valves maybe. If the valve isn't opening the piston would be hitting it, which is where your noise comes from. Make sure your belt isn't loose because if its skipping at all then the valves are off time.

You would need new valves, pistons(depending on how badly damaged) and belts.

Good luck dude, I hope none of those teeth are missing on that belt!

Possibly loose torque converter bolts? It could also be a bad transmission mount. Mine wore out and started sagging and caused the exhaust pipe to bang on the crossmember. Sounded just like a bad engine knock and you could feel it if you touched the engine while it was running.

I was coming on to post that it could be the torque converter bolts. I totally forgot that and just remebered but someone beat me to it. Take the cover off the bottom of the tranny bell housing and check if the bolts are sticking out at all.

im in the tamaqua/ hazleton area i really wanna find out wats wrong or else ill be forced to drive a 2dr saturnlol.

also when i would start it up in the morning after my last oil change(went with shell rotella 10/40 i believe) i was making this same knock then it would go away when it got warm and i would wait till it whent away to pull out. now its just here permanetly and sounds waaay worse.

blew the head gasket this afternoon guess i wont have the jeep no more till i can find a good motor
