Default Need help!!! sank the XJ won't run --+ Video

Here is the video of the little lake trip my brother took.

89 cherokee

So I have taken out the plugs took off the cap cleaned contact areas and rotor taken out relays and cleaned them and changed the oil. I have had a kero 150,000 btu heater blasting it for like 6-8 hours also while doing all that stuff above. I have had it fire and die then start and run for a few seconds and die. Gas or starting fluid do not help I have got it to run for almost 5 mins then it died and would not fire again next day it fired and has not fired last few times I have tried. It makes no igintion sounds of fuel pump sounds like it always has every time you turned it on in the past. The time it ran for 5 mins it did make those sounds then ran great for that 5mins.

1) What do I dry or take apart next
2) any posts on getting water out after sinking you jeep engine trans ect

Thanks for any help!!

if your not getting fuel my 89 xj was swamped before i got it and it was doing the ssame shiot turned out to be under the driver rear tire theres a electrical plug that goes to the gas tank it was covered in mud and corrosion cleaned out the plug worked fine after that also theres a connection at your starter relay between your battery and the relay pack for the fuel pump its labled F on it hit that to 12volts and with the ignition on and listen to see if it turns on

Default Oh man!!!

I'm sorry dude......

I dunno where to tell you to start, but I might have a little advice to help.

WD-40. Originally it was designed as a Water Displacer. It will displace 40 times it's weight in water. I have used it on several electrical tools that were left in the rain at a job and the bucket they were in filled up. I have also used WD40 on a motorola razor that was dropped in a toilet (ha ha). It'll remove the water out of anything then just let it dry for a bit.

Good luck man, and great video...

firts thing I did at the lake side was soak relays/connections/cap+rotor with WD 40, maybe I should try that again and some more heat on it?

Is there any other ignition relays or connections to check, Like I said it does not help at all to give it fuel or starting fluid in the the intake tube so I would have to say there is no spark. It is more like nothing but the starter turns on with the key?

the one circled is for the fuel this relay doesnt look like a regular relay try taking the one labled F off and touch it to the connection with the bolt which is 12volts it should make the noise like your fuel coming on if not you got some other issues turning your fuel on this relay is located next to the battery and 4relays

start diagnosing the problem first off check for fuel and spark get a fuel pressure gauge and test the pressure and get testing tool to check for spark i have a cheap one that goes between the plug end and the cap works great after you that you can start looking for smaller things that could have gone wrong

Thanks for all the help guys the pic was really helpfull I kept soaking that area with some ole power lube and brushed the connections clean on that F post really good a couple of time and she fired up and runs good, now I just have to change the oil a few times to get the water out and I guess the trans once for water and rad once for silt/sand + drain the diffs and run it.

I will keep on jeep'in for sure I have had it all over my lawn it is small but effective, has some large rock area's (covered in grass unitll yesterday LOL) I could not climb them in the rain I can't wait for it to dry out !!

I have drove it changed the engine oil, trans fluid and then drove for a hour and changed engine oil/filter. I did not get a trans filter I will have to go get that Mon. it looks like a strawberry milk shake agian (I hate strawberry milk shakes!! LOL). Checked the front diff it was gold, rear was white so I changed that. I still have to check that rear diff again and do the trans oil/filter after I warm it up again.

Yeah that tree stump section of the down hill is a little tight I have taken my stock XJ down that last year but it is worse this year. My brother XJ looked sick on the climb out backwards up the hill after he winched me out of the lake.
