I dont know what this peice is called but it is the white plastic piece in the picture below...



I broke the old one while removing the shift ****. Do I have to take the shifter assembly out in order to replace it?

 

It should pull right out. Use I pick tool. Grease the new one with white lithium grease. Good to go
