Need help identifying gears in a 242 T Case
So last weekend i dropped my T case, split it in half and changed out the plastic bushings on my shift forks because 4 Lo keep's dis in gauging my front drive line. Needless to say the plastic bushing's did not help the problem!
So Turbo X_J was nice enough to post up a pic for me with 2 gears, and a explanation stating the dogs could be wore out on the gear on the left, and this might be what is causing my front drive line to dis engauge while in 4 LO.
I have looked at a explode view of my transfer case, and i think i can place these 2 gears in the Differential Assembly, but the exploded view is very vague to say the least. I have also sent a PM to Turbo X_J, but he has not gotten back to me on the location of these 2 gears.
So does anybody know the locations of these 2 gears in the T case?
Since it is supposed to snow for the next 5 days, and my Cherokee is my daily driver to get my butt to work, i would just like to order these gears, and when i have them in my hand, then i will drop the T case and split it again, and install the gears all in one day, instead of dropping the case, and waiting 3 to 5 days for the gears to arrive.
My 57 Chevy and my 65 L.C. are not daily drivers that i want to be driving in the middle of a snow storm trying to get to work at 4 AM.
Thanks
Rick
When you had it apart what did the gears look like? More importantly did the lo 1 gear have dogs on it?
Like the gear on the left?
The purpose of the dogs is to hold the gears engaged, the more pressure applied the tighter the grip. If the dogs are worn they can no longer hold and behave as you describe.
