I had just put a new rad in, and positive there wasn't a sensor in the old rad. Holes for screws don't even look like they've had a fan installed

I found this somewhere
"In 1988 the auxiliary fan could be provided as part of:
Air conditioning
Off-Road Package
Heavy duty cooling package
Trailer towing prep package]
It was not standard on all vehicles."

I'm guessing it's the same for 87 too, and mimes a bare minimum base model with the online 6, the speed and 4x4, nothing else.

Alright sweet thanks! I think I figured out one if the reasons it ran so hot. Oil had been replaced in 2010, but had barely been driven maybe 1k miles before I bought it since that oil change. Before I changed it, when the jeep got to operating temp the hood would be so hot that you couldn't touch it, now after changing the oil, I drove for a good hour and the hood was cool to the touch. Still going to install the e-fan tho and other cooling parts I have.

Well, I got it written up and submitted to "Technical Write-ups", but it has not been approved yet, so it's kind of in limbo. It showed up in a search, so here's a link that will probably go dead soon:
