So I've got a mint condition 1987 Comanche with around 29k miles on it. 4x4 5 speed 4 liter. It runs pretty hot and the clutch fan isn't enough for cooling. So i picked up a fan off a 95 Cherokee sport in the junk yard. Now all I need to do is wire it up, and I need help wiring it up to a switch. Can anyone input on this and help out? It would be very appreciated!!

Are you wanting it to come one when it reaches a certain temp or do you want to manually control it?

They all run hot and are vacuum nightmares. I'll buy it from you so you can find a 2000-2001 Cherokee.Originally Posted by FattyAlx

See if there is a two wire plug there front of the air cleaner. Maybe black and black yellow stripe wires. Then on the radiator, drivers side is the temp switch. Likely the wiring is there and all you need to do it install the fan. The fan just has tabs for the bottom, then two little screws up top.

Nobody is buying this from me I'm in love. I wanna manually control it via switch, eventually I'll wire up a thermal switch. But I want a regular push button switch for now if possible. No there isn't a plug by the air box for itOriginally Posted by CCKen

You can just wire it up. If it spins backwards, reverse the wires. Put an in-line 25A fuse right where you come off the start relay....You don't want that shorting and making fire. You could run fused POS right to the fan, then have your dash switch connect the ground to any chassy ground. (So only one ground wire into the cab). No idea what others have done. In my sig is a diagram for an SPDT relay, would be fine for that as well.

Do you or could you make a schematic? Basically what im saying is this jeep only came with a clutch fan, no electric fan and i need to install an electric fan. I would like a wiring diagram, I have relays I just dont know what im doing to wire it up.Originally Posted by DFlintstone

Cool. Well first fit it in place. Next just juice the wires with pos and Neg from the battery. Note which direction makes it blow the right way, and mark those, (at least a red POS wire). Ground can be green.
I'm not going to make a schematic, or even a wiring diagram we might understand.

I already have all of that known, I just need to know where to wire it on a relay and where to add the switchOriginally Posted by DFlintstone

There's an extra fuse in that diagram. Not needed. Instead of taking the 12v for the switch from the battery, take it from a piggyback 1/4" connector (like
) where the device power connects to the relay at connector 87b. Then the switch lead is protected by the same fuse as the device. That's standard wiring practice. No reason to use two fuses.
If you don't like the piggyback, use a larger size standard connector and crimp both wires into it.
There is also some bogus labeling on that relay. The correct, industry standard labeling is shown here. This is what you'll find on high-end relays like Hella and cheap knockoffs alike.

You eliminating the clutch fan with the electric ? Electric will not do any better . Have you replaced the clutch itself yet ?
