I have a 2001 sport with 100800 miles on it. I decided that my periodic crank no start may be due to dirty plugs as thy were last changed 60000 to 700000 miles ago. I read the service manual and felt confident this was going to be a breeze. Well I removed the rail from the plugs with no problem . How ever I could not disconnect the wires to the rail and I could not move the rail out of the way. The manual states that you must turn the rail over to disconnect it,I couldn't move it anywhere except for 1/2" up or down and 1/4" back, let alone turn it over. Do I need to remove the cooling hoses or is there some other way. Any help would be welcome. Thank you.(i have reinstalled the rail and the engine runs so it is not URGENT.)
I just did this on my 2000 XJ about a week ago. I was able to wiggle the coil pack around without removing any coolant hoses, or anything else to where I could get the wire disconnected. To disconnect the wire, you have to move a little red clip, then squeeze on a tang while pulling the plug out. It really wasn't a bad job at all, just take your time and don't get frustrated and pull any wires out of the firewall.
