What clip exactly broke? It's a push/pull cable so both ends need to be secure. If something isn't secure you can't expect a good operation. Someone somewhere has the cable. Get inventive and retain whatever broke with a part?

That's not extremely helpful. I'm assuming you mean the clip that slides through the bracket on the side of he trans? If it has one side still, you may be ok. If both break and it moves around then you'll have problems. Take a picture? Call a parts store and have them price out the cable? Do you have problems currently?

This clip right here.

Do I need to replace the whole cable or can I possible buy the cable at a Jy and put that black piece back on and recrimp it?

Just drove home on city streets and it was fine but the more I read about it I'm worried I don't want to mess up the tranny

Pull the cable out as far as you can and keep it there somehow. It will be fine til you can replace the cable or find an alternative fix.

Default Short Style slip on clip

Thanks for the close up pics, I was able to modify my current clip for the newer Jeep 4.0L autos (http://shpws.me/F0s4) and create a short version to replace your style of clip (Looks like earlier 4.0's maybe cherokee specific?). Just slides on in place of the old clip, after breaking off the old one.

I'm having the same issue with the broken clip, how'd you end fixing it or where did you get the clip? Did you you have to replace the whole cable?

I put safety wire around both of mine when they broke (I broke them) I have not had any issues and that wire is not going anywhere.
