need help after Water pump replacement
i paid my buddy 30$ to replace my water pump and tstat ( didnt have time to do it myself ) and now my 89XJ runs way over 220 range more like 235 or so and when i do drive it for 30-40 miles in traffic it almost gets to the RED ZONE on the gauge...
prior to pump change my XJ was running right under 220 mark all day...
i do have a closed system and my buddy said that he was confused on how to fill/burp it... maybe he missed a step? what needs to be done to fix my problem
thanks guys

You need to pull you temp sender out from the back of the black and them fill it till coolant comes. Give the upper and lower hose a few squeezes as well. And you new t stat could be faulty, if that's the case, get one from the dealership.

I'm betting the stock cap on the bottle is crappy and not sealing. Replace it with a Napa 703-1396. I have NEVER had to burp a Renix since they came out in 1987!!
Check this out from the FSM
This system does not have a radiator pressure cap. Instead the pressure cap is mounted on the coolant pressure bottle. System coolant flows directly through a fully pressurized Hot-Type expansion bottle. Coolant flows through the pressure bottle at all times during engine operation whether the engine is cold or at normal operating temperatures.
Larger coolant volume caused by thermal expansion during engine operation is absorbed by the expansion chamber in the bottle. Air trapped in the system is purged through the pressure cap vent valve during maximum coolant expansion..
