Default Need Help with 99 Cherokee alignment question

Hello, my cherokee is pulling to the right i had Les Schwab check it out and they said theres nothing wrong with my front end. They couldnt align it, he said something about caster not being adjustable, that it will need shimes(chimes?). Of couse they dont do that, so im wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to solve it? Thanks for all help.

Post more info about how your XJ is currently setup, as that will help others help you diagnose the issue. For example, is it lifted? What brand lift? Do you have adjustable control arms? Upgraded track bar? Etc. The more info you provide, the better feedback you'll get.

When you let go of the steering wheel, does the wheel turn towards the direction of the pull? If so, you have a tire causing the pull. Cross the front tires and see if the direction changes. Now for the caster adjustment, there are shims where the lower arms mount to the chassis. Add shims for more caster, remove shims for less caster. I betting on it being a tire pull though.

well looks like my MPG is about right, but no its not tire pull, ive tried that test already, so no one else here has had to put shimes in there car? and as you can tell im new to this forum and also to working on cars, so trying to do my own alignment would be kind of a large job that im not really ready for.

adding shims is an essential part to an alignment on cherokees. if they told you they couldnt do it because they had to add shims they're idiots, take it somewhere else. "chimes" I dont know about, a wind chime would annoy the hell out me

first you need to determine what is out of allignment. Caster wouldn't normally cause a pull, it would cause the jeep to wander. Go to Gojeep.com, there is a write-up on how to align the XJ. If you can read a tape measure and know how to turn a wrench, you can do a basic alignment, yourself.
