Default need help

I figured rather than trying to guess my problem I would post here see if anyone knows what this is. Ok so I have a 97 Cherokee and my power steering pump went, the pulley and shaft its pressed onto came out of the pump, the bearings were shot. I put a smaller belt on and drove it for a week, with my check engine light popping on and off. Replaced pump and pulley today. Put right belt on and drove around all day. Was just out and the electric fan kicked on, temp gauge went down and check engine light popped on while parked, left drove maybe 1/4 mile shut truck off for about 5-10 mins, turned it back on went to move and it shut off. Checked belt and everything under the hood and it looked ok. Tried starting truck while giving it throttle and it started right up and drove fine. Sorry so long but wanted to make sure I covered everything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

What codes are stored? I can't imagine what about the power steering pump might set a check engine light.
