Question as the name states but its hot

I was wondering how to drain the radiator? Do I just turn the outlet and watch it flow? or am I missing somthng. I've owened nothing but imports. Cars to be exact so this is completely new to me. It gets pretty warm coming up the cajone pass in the california high desert no a/c on the coolant looks like it has only has antifreeze should I add water? If I let it idle with the a/c on it will get hot what should I check for?

You are on the right track....turn the petcock to drain. There is also a drain plug on the block below the headers to completely drain the block, if you want. Do a search for "cooling problems" there is prob 100 threads about cooling problems with the 4.0. There will be many suggestions on what to do too keep your jeep cooler.

Cos,Onlyinmyxj22

Thanks for the welcome...
well I have drained my coolant and replaced it. It now seems to run hotter.... when I purchased the cherokee the young man told me that he and his father just replaced the t-stat and coolant lines.. The coolant lines seem to be in great condition but as far as the t-stat I'm unsure. My son was just born on Thursday so I dont have much time right this sec. to check but other than the cooling issue this is a TON of fun. I'll keep trouble shooting untill I get it!!!! Thanks again,

Billy

Welcome
check your aux fan and just to make sure your lower rad hose has the internal spring to keep it from collapsing
the aux fan is a one speen fan, it may start out strong but after it warms up (if it is bad) it will turn very slow barely pulling any cool air causing it to run hotter. hope some of this helps

How hit is it getting? Normal driving= , Going over the pass= . I would expect to see around 210 normally and up to 220, going up that hill, especially in summer or when traffic is heavy.

Don't bother adding water, unless it is low. Better yet flush and change the fluid with 50/50 mix. Check and replace the radiator cap. Check the T-stat, must be 195deg. Check fans, electric one should turn-on with AC or when temp goes over 210. Make sure the fan clutch is good on the main fan.
