name that hose!
hey im a new member from the big island of hawaii.
i just picked up an 86 xj with a 2.5l and need a little help. its not getting enough air at WOT. i figured it was a weak link in my vaccum system. i have a couple hoses that aren't connected to anything and i'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. the vacuum diagram under my hood didn't really help me out too much.
don't have too much background info. first thing i had to do was re-ground the fuel pump, and now it works cherry, just having a problem with airflow. i have the stupid pressurized coolant system that has a broken cap on the overflow tub. the cap in the middle of the block, (call me dumb, but i don't know the name/ purpose. havent made it there yet. trying to get it running first ). but the cap in the middle of the block was broken or modified, but it doesnt lock in. they cut it so that it just sat there and would spew oil out. i got a new cap, but it doesnt fit. i tried everyway i could but couldnt get it in. it was off of a HO 4.0l though, so im not surprised it doesnt fit.
so who knows where these hoses go?
the second one is right behind the throttle body.
and what is the canister bolted to the firewall right in the center? in the last pic? what is supposed to go on it?

no, thats exactly why i posted; i'm not certified !
theres a lot of of wires/ hoses that are going nowhere and im trying to weed through them and figure out what ones are not necessary and which one is screwing me up!
heater, a/c, cruise control, power steering, etc are things that i don't need anyway. just need to figure out why im not getting any air. i'll post more pics when i get home from work, have a lot of questions/ stupid questions because of stupid things that other people did. thanx for the quick response too!

yeah, like i said, this is a new car to me . my daily driver has been a vintage vespa for quite a while and i've kind of shunned away from work on trucks.
the oil cap i have will not fit. or maybe im just an idiot and not coordinated enough to do it. the two tabs on the side are bigger than the hole. i dont know if its the wrong cap or what. i got it off a HO 4.0.
i have the vacuum hose diagram and am pretty sure that all those hoses are hooked up. the charcoal can has all hoses hooked up to it as well as the throttle body. the only thing i can think of is maybe the air box. where does the pipe under the air box go to? i just have a 90 degree elbow and thats it.
i can drive it if i lowball it in every gear, but if i give it too much gas it just bogs out. if i keep my foot on the clutch, even the slightest bit, i can get the rpms a little higher.
maybe a leak in the intake manifold?
heres my oil cap problem
