Hello All, I’m stumped! I have a 93 XJ, in-line 6, 4.0 Sport model, using R12, that I’m replacing the hoses/compressor/Receiver and evaporator; and all was going well till I get to the Mystery “brass fitting” that are attach to the Receiver, which then connects to a hose, (Liquid Line), which in turn connects to the Expansion Valve. I’ve found a few air conditioning diagrams for a 93, but the brass fittings are listed “discontinued”. Does anyone know of a source for the brass fittings or “work-around” or the required O-rings to rebuild? Inspecting these fittings they appear to have two functions; 1. Rotating collar for attaching/turning the nut portion. 2. Internal o-ringed valves on both ends. I would have just put it all back together, but looking inside, the O-rings are failing, nicks, small chucks missing, and one is about to break in half. So, anyone have any leads? Rebuild kits, O-ring part numbers? Or outright replacement? Also, would it be possible to replace this valve function altogether by going with newer XJ parts?

Best Regards

First, I think that brass fitting is merely some kind of quick disconnect. The junction seals when you take them apart. You could bypass it al together or just leave the guts out.

When I did my '88 AC overhaul, I bought a generic AC o-ring kit which ended up having the right size orings for this gizmo.

Are you converting to R-134a? If so make sure you get compatible o-rings.

Saudade, very interesting! Yes, I see your point of view. The dim bulb just went on for me. I'm working several paths and one of them is to get O-Rings.
Thank You for your help.
