Default My xj has a 2" exhaust? what the what?

A couple weeks ago I was installing some new shackles/springs and the exhaust was in the way, so I chopped it back and ordered a new tip (2 1/4"). Today, the new tip came and I went to put it on and it's too big!!

After measuring, the tip is correct, but the exhaust pipe is only 2", all the way back to the manifold. Everywhere I've read says the stock size is 2 1/4". Did one of the previous owners have the wrong size installed? Is all of this stuff aftermarket? See pics..

What bad things would this cause? Anything besides loss in performance?

All our stock components measured 2.5" ahead of the cat and 2.25" after the cat. We replaced all the 2.25" stuff with 2.5" all the way back.

2.5" to the cat inlet, 2.25" out. Either the rear pipe got squashed or the PO had new pipe installed.

I measured it all around, it's 2" even to the cat inlet. ~6 1/4" circumference.

So what effect would this have?

Probably not much......the Jeep 4.0L is pretty low tech/low performance......the Briggs & Stratton of car motors.
