Default my truck is leaing antifreeze

i have a 98 2.5l 5spd. i went to use the heat the other night and it started over heating and leaking antifreeze. i saw the white smoke coming from right below the throttle body. any idea what this could be? i need to figure it out asap.
now when i went to the mechanic to have a oil change i had him look into it. wo we left it running with the heat on and raised it up on the lift and waitied until it heated up and started to leak. within 2-3 mins it was a constant stream coming down the side of the motor. between tuesday and today i have used 2 and a half gallons of antifreeze.
any help would be great.

If this mechanic was standing right there and couldn't figure it out, how will we?

I know nothing about the 2.5. That being said, my first guess would be a frost plug.

Now for my question: if the mechanic had it on a lift, and was looking right at it, couldn't he find the leak? If he couldn't, how could we figure it out?

Frost plug. Lol

If your "mechanic" was worrh a **** he should be able to tell you.

But with the tiny bit of info your giving me I think the leak is coming from your heater controll valve
