Has anyone gone and done the hood pins, I know they are mostly seen on race cars but the jeep hood latch set up is worthless, I figure it would be the best. Would anyone recommended doing that?

You sure you installing them correctly?
How often do you open the hood?
This should be a once in a decade job.

Not open to often besides usual maintenance, it's not so much the cable but where the cable attaches to that metal piece under the hood, that is rusty and doesn't move when the cable is pulled unless pulled really hard witch snaps the wire.

Maybe you could wire brush the rust and some lithium grease next time?

hood pins
I just had 3 cables break and all the brackets to it. what did not help is I have a Security plate blocking the cable. used two hood pins cut all the brackets off left the hood latch. put 2 handles on hood.

My cable required a strong pull until I lubed the latch mechanism.

Took very little white grease applied with a small screwdriver.

When I bought my XJ the cable and handle were broken. Had to use pliers to pull the cable but, I installed hood pins from Summit and they work great. Nothing fancy and they were easy to install.
