The wiper arm might be on a splined shaft that goes into the motor(like a motorcycle shifter). You might be able to move the arm on the splines. Maybe take arm off, move down on the splines? Hey Cherokee gurus chime in! Hope this helps.

When you turn the wipers off they should "park" at the lowest point. If not, you have them clocked wrong. Turn them on, then off. After they stop, with the key off, there should be a little tab under the base of the arm . Or there is a nut in the center under a cap. I don't own an XJ. Anyway, remove arm, rocking it slightly to loosen the splines. Reclock it and replace. If you look at it carefully, you'll see how it attaches.

My '93 has the same issue - I came across this thread:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/showth...wiper+bushings

I haven't replaced my bushings, but after a quick removal of the cowl panel and inspection, I am thinking it should fix my issue as well...

HTH...

Mine do the same thing but i dont think it has to do with where the arms sit on the spline... if i cut the wipers off the wipers stop wherever they are... but i just wait till there down and cut them off... last of my worries... lol... but his may be acting the same way...
