Default my jeep dilema please help?

hello.I have a 1998 jeep Cherokee sport 4x4 inline 6 cylinder 4.0L.has 197563 miles.i like this jeep very much,i have it for 8 years and it been good to me.however now it starting to show a problem after other.first thing was the speed needle moved up and down,even while the motor is running in park.i replaced the speed censor locate in the transfer case block.still the same,also replace the Gage cluster .the second problem is, it started to lose power after a stop and go.many times if i am at stop sign or red light and then hit the accelerator,the car power goes down(stall),i need to take my feet from pedal and wait few seconds,then the car power is good and run good.i changed the spark plug,rotor and cap.still same.on drive car runs fine on the street or highway,problem id on the stop and then go. other problem is when i drive on reverse the car shake and there is a foul smell of fuel.also the CIL shows with the p0304 code.but the code goes away later on. please if you have any idea of what i need to do,please let me know.i need this car to go to work,and right now things with $$$ are hard.
thanks

one last thing i just remember..i removed the NSS switch and service it.did the park,neutral,reverse test and did pass all.did this because the reverse light was not working,and the electric test showed that the wire and light bulbs were fine.so the NSS is good

Is it a fuel smell or like a rotten egg smell?

If it smells like fuel, check you cylinder#4 injector and make sure its not leaking.

P0304 = Cylinder #4 Misfire.

checked the cyl #4 injector and did not see any leak.strange is that the shaking and CIL with p0304 and fuel smell symptom only comes when on reverse.

I still dont know the ins and outs off Jeeps, but what your're describing actually sounds like a fuel leak near the tank. It could explain the fuel smell in reverse and the hesitation.
