Smile my first jeep :)

hey, planning on buying my first jeep in the next few days, i'm 17 and have had my licence for about 6 months now. we are getting a mechanic to go over it tomorrow. my dad says that jeeps have a lot of diff problems and that to fix it you have to replace the whole diff, does anyone know much about this? or common jeep problems?

the jeep that im looking at is a 97' cherokee limited, it's done 170,000km which works out at 110604 miles, she is asking $6000 australian which is about $3800 US. she will go down on her price but reocn this is a decent price for a jeep like this and have been looking for years, does any body have any tips for buying?

thanks phily185

very decent price for it... but depends on the shape of the vehicle! Jeeps are FUN and since the body engine etc. hasnt changed much you can mod it out like no other (well maybe the mustang has more) but just be cautious!

I get the "Jeeps have problems" thing, but it's based on faulty logic.

The deal is, Jeeps are exceptionally reliable compared to other SUVs. The long production runs and "fan interest" means parts are available and mostly interchangeable.

Also, Jeeps are exceptionally easy to work on. I don't know your mechanical knowledge at 17, but you can learn how to wrench pretty easily with Jeeps.

A '97 with 170k km sounds like a good deal, provided it isn't a flood car. Anything else you can fix up.

phil185 Where are you located? It has a great bearing on parts and their availability. Customs has a tendancy to rape the overseas buyer.
