My first Cherry
Hi from across the pond in England UK. just bought my 1st Grand Cherry and not sure what to expect. Its an old one (98) and right hand drive 160,000 miles and converted to LPG (liquid petrolium Gas) but still has petrol (Gas) (confusing as we call 'gas' petrol and currently paying about $6 a gallon.)
The engine is great at 65-70MPH very smooth. But on tick-over like a bag of spanners in a hurracane. Tick-over between 1100rpm, 600rpm and very noisey rumbles from exhaust (as if a hole has appeared in the system). Any clues????
Merry Christmas t all.

Hey Bro. Tell us what the American slang coversion is for what you are calling "Tick-over" and I might be able to help you out.
Higher revs sometimes (1000-1100 rpm) Then sometimes 5-600 rpm and almost cutting out all together.

Ok, I think I get what you're saying now. What you call Tick over, I call Idling. Basically your engine is just running by itself at normal operating temperature without any accelerater pedal input. My Cherokee has the 4.0 HO 6 cylinder engine and it does the same thing. It has what I call a lifter tick at idle. It ticks while idling but, at normal driving rpm...(1500-3000) it just purrs like a kitten. My engine had 185K on it when I bought it and it now has 256K. I still get the same knocks or ticks at idle and the same quiet performance while driving. There are a couple of ways to try and fix this. You can try replacing one or two quarts of the regular weight oils with 20w-50, or you can try an oil additive like Mavel Mystery oil or Lucas, or replace the lifters.
For the 1st time in my history (51 yrs), Manchester UK has seen minus 17.6 degrees and an average of -8 since 23rd December. Most Northern US members will be saying "so what" as they get -40 in some parts over there. Here in the UK we are used to a few inches of snow, lasting 2-3 days, then back to rain and -2 or 3 making the roads a bit slippy. But this is something else, we do not have the infrastructure to cope. I of course have my new Cherry which has been great fun until today, Runnnig on LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas), has been good since its less than half price of *petrol (*GAS in the US), until today when the whole fuel systm froze due to 'LPG solidifies in this weather'. Due to the fact I had let the petrol run down to empty, I too am stuck at home today.
