Default My emergency flashers do not work.

So, I just bought by very first Jeep. It's a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 litre, straight 6.

So far, I absolutly love it but there are a few things I need to fix. One is my emergency flashers do not work when I flip the switch. Instead I hear a fast ratcheting noise or nothing at all. Although, my turn signals work fine. Thoughts?

Second, my emergency brake has no stopping power at all. I crawled underneath and saw that the "tensioner" for the E brake was halfway up the threads. Can I tighten it the rest of the way, or would that not make a difference given its already so loose? I'll post pictures later.

Thanks everyone!

First..., Hi and welcome to CF from Tj in NJ.
You may want to check the flasher in the fuse panel. There are 2 different ones,
one for the turn signals and one for the emergency flashers. On the E brake try tightening the tensioner some more...Tj

Thanks, I appreciate the input, but I was wondering. Is there more than one fuse panel? So far I'v only found one under the hood on the left side.

There is also a fuse panel on the front seat passenger side on the right of where your feet would go.

That must just be in newer jeeps, its on the driver side on the left of your feet in mine, like in every other car I have owned...

Default 2000 flasher/hazard

my 2000 had same problem. Fix is simple: the flasher/hazard (it's a combo - one unit controls both functions) is located behind the knee panel under the steering column. I found it easier to take the whole thing off to see what I was dealing with, otherwise you have to be a contortionist to remove. Once that was done, just unhook the old and pop on the new. $15 at NAPA. Hope this helps

So, eventually the whole turn signal/emergency flasher combo went out so I just replaced it. Now it works fine.
