Default my cherokee turns over a minute before starting

I was hoping for some diagnosis help my XJ cranks and then will finally turn over.
Ive changed the plugs(champion coppers) and the starter wire just things Ive replaced recently
It likes to start better when i cycle the key before starting (I believe it helps build fuel pressure?) which leads be to believe its fuel pump related.

could it just be a filter or strainer any incite on my problem Im sure someone has had my problem

98 cherokee 4.0 201,095 miles

Sounds like the check valve in the fuel pump is failing - it's a common enough problem. This does not usually require a replacement of the pump tho - there is a BMW part (fuel check valve) that can be put in the line just out of the fuel tank, and take its place. You can also check with fluid power houses for a fuel-rated check valve (tell them exactly what you're using it for - they'll understand, and it means getting a better part for the application...) check your Yellow section to see if you have a local Parker-Hannifin dealer/shop close by.

Search for it on NAXJA.org - I don't have it handy (I know it's been discussed there, and should still be archived. I really need to find out and post it...)
