my 99 rig takes a poop...
Outta no-where,on my wife and my 3rd year wedd. Anniversary nite out,power drains.....
In a matter of minutes...poops on the side of the rd. And won't turn over..only clicks...like from the
Starter.....
I know I had a some dead cells in the battery before it drained completely....only have needed a few jumps in last 6 months...but since it happened while I was driving,does that point ot the alternator?
Plz. Help me out my everyday driver down is creating a lot of drama....I'm sure my xj family understands.....lol....thanks,

I would def take the alternator out and and have it tested. Replace the batt as well if you know it's got dead cells. To answer your question, yes it sounds like your alternator. I would also give your grounds a good once over as well.

if your running a bad battery for that long then your making the alternater work harder.
So this makes sense you let something go for so long it will affect other parts and cost more in the long run.

1. Load test battery. Replace if fails test. You cannot run a vehicle with a marginal battery. The engine management system won't allow it.
2. Test charging system. Should be seeing approx. 13.5-14.0 volts on your voltage gauge if everything is up to snuff. If it isn't, the alternator is the primary suspect.
3. Be sure that all connections on battery terminals and posts are shiny clean.
